Platelet Rich Plasma

The benefits of PRP in dermatology are a relatively new discovery although PRP has been used to treat a variety of other medical conditions. Platelets, which are a component of our blood, are rich in growth factors. When injected into the scalp, these growth factors have been shown to stimulate new hair growth. In the face, PRP can be injected or combined with microneedling to help stimulate collagen production and restore volume loss. PRP is obtained by drawing blood and then spinning the blood in a centrifuge to extract the concentrated platelets. Once the concentrated PRP is obtained, it is used to treat you that same day in our office.

  • To improve skin texture and discoloration.
  • To soften acne scars by boosting collagen production.
  • To stimulate hair growth.
  • Your blood Is drawn by a trained medical provider in our office. We recommend you arrive to the appointment hydrated. Typically 1-2 vials of blood are obtained.
  • The vials of blood are then spun in a centrifuge to extract the platelets. The other components of the blood are discarded.
  • The platelet rich plasma is then injected superficially into scars, areas of hyperpigmentation and/or areas of hair loss. PRP can also be applied topically after microneedling.
  • PRP can help expedite wound healing. When combined with microneedling or laser, patients may notice less redness, swelling and downtime.
  • Typically there are no activity restrictions post procedure. Some may recommend to avoid washing the area for 24 hours.
  • Best results are usually seen after 3 sessions.
