Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are performed in our office to help treat unwanted brown spots, acne, scarring and textural irregularity of the skin. We offer superficial, medium and deep chemical peels depending on the patient’s skin concerns and goals. Often a combination of peels is used to achieve the best results. Our providers will evaluate your skin carefully and choose a chemical peel that best addresses your concerns. Pre and post peel care will also be carefully reviewed.
Chemical peels are used to address a range of skin concerns including:
- Uneven skin tone, sun‑damaged skin, age spots, and discoloration.
- Acne and mild acne scars, rough or dull skin texture.
- Fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes or mouth.
- Consultation & skin assessment – A Pittsburgh Skin provider evaluates your skin type, concerns, and goals, then selects between light, medium or deep peel strength.
- Preparation – Skin is cleansed, and eyes/hair are protected. Depending on the depth, pre‑treatment protocols may apply.
- Application – A chemical solution (for example glycolic acid, salicylic acid, TCA, phenol) is applied to target skin areas. The solution causes controlled damage/removal of skin layers.
- Recovery & Regeneration – The treated skin will crust, peel or flake off (depending on depth). Underneath, newer, smoother skin emerges.
- After a light peel: Redness or mild flaking, minimal downtime.
- After a medium or deep peel: More pronounced redness, swelling, crusting, possible downtime from several days to weeks.
- Because the skin’s protective outer layer is removed, sun protection (broad‑spectrum SPF) and gentle skincare are essential post‑treatment.
- Results are not necessarily permanent — sun damage, aging and other external factors continue to affect skin over time.
