Our lips play an important role in our facial structure and expression. Loss of volume and definition in the lips can be a natural part of aging. Not to worry, Dr. Vélez and the staff at Pittsburgh Skin are experts in improving lip contour and shape with a variety of lip fillers and techniques. If you’re considering lip injections, check out some quick tips from Dr. Vélez on what to expect from the process. Be sure to call and schedule a consultation to determine if they’re the right fit for you!

Bring A Picture of Your “Perfect Pout”

Dr. Vélez can certainly enhance the size of your lip, but if you’re aiming for a particular look from your injections, we recommend bringing photos with you. While everyone’s lips are naturally different, having a point of reference to talk through with the doctor will help to guide the process and ensure that you’re happy with the end result.

The Process is Quick and Painless

Prior to injecting, we numb the area around your lips and face to ensure a painless procedure. You might feel tiny “pinches” as I enter the needle into various areas of the lip, but otherwise you shouldn’t expect to feel any pain or discomfort. The entire procedure (numbing included) takes around 30 minutes.

Recovery is Relatively Worry-Free

You can expect to experience swelling for a few days post-procedure (just as you would when receiving dental work). Slight bruising is also possible immediately following injections, but is typically not extreme. Patients may feel small “lumps” on the inside of their lips after filler. These are not noticeable to other people and will resolve over a few weeks.

Filler Doesn’t Last Forever

Depending on the formula you use, most lip filler only lasts between 6-12 months, meaning that the formula will fade over time. If you’re looking to get injections before a big event, like a wedding for example, Dr. Vélez recommends seeking out injections a month or two before the big day.
